12 March 2009  Volume 3, Issue 2

By Sue Yeap

The 25th Agility trial was held on 8 March 2009. The venue is the indoor Silver Jubilee Hall of the Old Folks Home at Jalan Sungai Dua, Penang. As per previous three times we used this indoor venue, the courses were laid out on carpets. As the space was not big enough for Open class (20 obstacles), the Open class was not run. 5 classes were run- Basic Jumpers, Elementary, Novice and Gamblers 1 and Gamblers 2. 12 dogs from Penang and 2 dogs from Padang Besar competed. 6 Clean Run certificates and 2 Gamblers 1 certificates were issued. Full results are here.

This time round, the crowd was unexpectedly large and they clapped and cheered for every dog, which was very motivating for every competitor.

Notable achievements-

Mal. CH Rightroyale's Skyler (handled by Alexis Yeap) has the best runs with 2 clean runs in Basic Jumpers (18.5 secs) and Elementary (40 secs)

Fred (handled by Cindy Tan) is the 5.5 year old white Pekingese who proved that it is never too late to train a dog for agility. Fred met up to expectations and won a clean run (1st place-28 secs) for Basic Jumpers class (Toy category).

Rightroyale's Milo (handled by Sriyanti) is the newcomer with 1 clean run (18.0 secs) in Basic Jumpers (1st place) and won 3 Games (1st Place) out of 4 Games entered in the Mini class.

A'sana von Skandinavika (handled by Michael Lee) surprised his handler with his first Gamblers 1 certificate (1st place).

Rightroyale's Kofi, M.A.CH,GD,CD (handled by Sue Yeap) won 1st placing in Cheetah, Kinkajous and Tortoise. He is placed 3rd in the Jaguar Game.

The 1st Toy Gamblers 1 certificate was earned by Chubby (handled by KK Chuah).

We also graduated 3 dogs for CSAT- Roxy, owned by Lillian Phung; Jou-jou, owned by Pamela Chin and Ricky, owned by Sharon Chin. Congratulations!

The 1st Agility Games was fun and exciting. Speed and accuracy is the theme. 4 Games were featured- Cheetah, Kinkajous, Tortoise and Jaguar. Results of the Games are here.

A big thank you to Angie of DHKS Pets Supplies, distributor of Eukanuba who has helped to get her boss to sponsor the Eukanuba dog food prizes for the trials on 8 March 2009.

I also want to take the opportunity to thank newcomers to the Game- Lillian Phung and Cindy Tan for their help. We are going to see more of them in our trials. They will learn to be Show Managers and timers besides running their dogs.

Thanks to Sharon Chin the Show Manager who took care of the documentation.

More pictures will be updated as soon as we get them from our photographer Mr. Tee.

Here are 2 pictures of Chubby (handled by KK Chuah) and Rocky (handled by Sharon Chin) with their Games certificates. Ist place=3 points, 2nd place=2 points and 3rd place= 1 point. They need minimum 20 points accumulated from all the 8 Games to get the title A.G.SP (Agility Games Specialist).
